OpenVPN Connect is the “official” application of OpenVPN Inc. and is designed to be more user-friendly for VPN users with little technical experience. It’s not as feature-rich openvpn for Android, which is targeted toward more advanced OpenVPN users.
Openvpn for Android Openvpn for Android, a free and open-source client created by Arne Schwarzbe, allows users to connect to any VPN service that is compatible with the OpenVPN protocol. It’s an excellent choice in the event that your device isn’t compatible with pre-configured “off the shelf” VPN apps that are available in the Google Play Store. The setup process is quite simple. You only need to import your VPN profile files (the configuration files have an extension of.ovpn) which you can obtain from the website of your provider or board room software by calling their live chat support team.
After you’ve imported a profile, simply tap on the server you want to connect to in order to connect to the server. Once connected it will ensure that all Internet traffic is routed through an encrypted tunnel and then directed to the server chosen by the application. The Status tab allows you to view your connection details and status. The kill switch is enabled by default. It will shut down your internet connection when the VPN tunnel drops.
The application offers a per-app VPN as and an option to be always on that automatically creates an VPN connection whenever the app is opened, and it will continue running after your device has shut down or switched networks. However, this feature requires Android 7.0 or higher and could cause more battery drain than normal.
